Following years of car show concepts and hype, Subaru BRZ’s first-generation hit showrooms in 2012. Co-developed with Toyota, Subaru BRZ was specifically designed as a futuristic, compact, and economical “driver’s car” and was quite successful in fulfilling these expectations.
However, the all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ exceeds these expectations with its fresh design and a more powerful four-cylinder 2.4 L boxer engine.
Like its predecessor, Toyota Motors handled much of the design and planning for the new model while Subaru took on the manufacturing and engineering at its Gunma plant.
Exterior
As soon as you lay eyes on this beauty, you will notice that the new BRZ is a stunner. There is a significant improvement in the front end from its predecessor. The cockpit box, which is drawn in, gives the illusion of a wider back despite no change in the width. This gives Subaru BRZ 2022 a more athletic look. The extreme rear features an integrated spoiler placed between the taillights.
The new roof panel bumps, also called the “double-bubble,” are a smart nod to vintage racers and act as the icing on the new BRZ’s well-baked cake. The overall length of the handsome new model is just an inch longer than the predecessor.
Interior
Inside, the plastic interior could have been a bit better in places. However, the rear seats are spacious enough to act as a glorified parcel shelf if the driver’s height is less than 6 feet and 4 inches. The 6.3 cubic-foot storage allows the new BRV to fit four spare wheels for a fun track day with the seats folded down.
Performance
With Toyota’s amazing D-4S fuel injection system, the all-new 2.4 L naturally-aspired engine produces 228 horsepower and 7,000 rpm. What’s surprising is that the car achieves 140 mph of maximum speed and crosses the 60 mph marker in less than 7 seconds.
Handling
Fortunately, the steering is as fascinating as in the previous models. The electric assist is quite light across the board. However, instantly translates inputs to its front wheels. The car’s chassis moves as a single unit almost instantly when the wheels are turned. This makes the BRZ one of the few sports cars in autocross and on the track that can turn swiftly and easily, even at an impressive speed.
All these amazing features make the new BRZ better than any other sports car produced by Subaru.
